Refugees from across the West Midlands were at the ARMCO Arena for a football tournament, organised by the Solihull Moors Foundation.

The foundation have been putting on weekly sessions for refugees living in hotels in Solihull but today they wanted to invite others from across the region to mark World Refugee Week.

They say it’s a great way to get them out of their accommodation, to engage with the community and to do some exerise.

Callum Mulryan helped set up the tournament: “We want these people to feel at home, away from home.

“We are a community club and we do look at trying to help everyone in every situation, all over Solihull. Helping the refugees is just one small step.”

One of the players was Cameron Khan who fled Afghanistan and is now living in Solihull. He told us: “I’m really glad because I meet new people. I get to play with my Afghan friends so it’s pretty good.”

Mohammed also came over from Afghanistan and is living in Walsall: “It brings everyone together. I can’t say my feelings because it’s just so nice.”

The foundation are now hoping to encourage more of the young men to attend their sessions.
